Clipomatic

I use the clipboard heavily throughout the day, and Clipomatic just makes doing everything so much faster. Resource usage is also almost next to nothing.
Simply superb! :)

From the site:
Using Clipomatic is simple. All you have to do is start it up, and it will start monitoring the clipboard and recording its changes. When you want to paste an old item, you just put the keyboard cursor where you would like to paste and press Ctrl-Alt-V instead of Ctrl-V. A menu pops up with your clips - you can select one with the mouse or with a single keystroke. The menu then disappears, and the item is pasted with no further work on your part.

Free WAP connectivity!

Whoah...this is one heck of a freebie! :D

I've just got unlimited free GPRS and WAP access with T-Mobile (USA) ! I was playing with the built-in WAP browser on my Nokia 3650 to see what it's like and what I can do with it, and it's pretty damn useful as it is! I can now check my POP3 mail and Hotmail (through MSN Mobile), and visit any WAP site while paying nada for it.
Then all I have to do is install Opera (the SymbianOS version) on the phone, and I'll be able to access even regular sites via HTTP, and view them in full color with images and everything. The nice, big full-color screen of the 3650 is just awesome.

w00tage! :w00t:
*Thinks about reading NTFS.org frontpage news everyday while walking to class in the morning.* How cool would that be?

Hmm...I could also post on forums and sign onto MSN/AIM, but that's just way too slow and inconvenient, even with T9 predictive text enabled, so I probably won't go that far.
:P

IE - yet another CSS bug...

Hmm...I tried using the "letter-spacing" CSS attribute today to make the text on the site more readable, and I stumbled upon another nasty IE rendering bug.

Basically, if I use "letter-spacing: 1px;" in my stylesheet, and I have more than one line break tag (br) one after another anywhere in my HTML code, IE renders it as just a single line break instead, which basically messes up a large portion of my layout. A quick Google search revealed that this is, in fact, a known bug affecting many sites.
Hurrah for IE's crappy CSS support...and that too, when it's at version 6. You would have thought they'd have learned by now... rolleyes

Now that's just annoying. So I'm left with two options - get rid of the letter-spacing attribute and leave the page as it is, or replace the line break tags with paragraph tags.
I choose the former option for the time being...

The first red-carpet premiere...

The new movie Gothika premiered today at the Mann Theater in Westwood, right outside the UCLA campus. And it was a red-carpet premiere...the ones you see Hollywood stars at, and need special passes to attend.
Who could miss something like that? So Adheesh and I decided to head up to Westwood in the evening to check it out, and it was really a very unique experience.
We saw stars like Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr., Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe from the Matrix), and a few other famous people. It was cool!

Check out pics from the premiere in the Pictures section.
:D

And what's even better is that it's not the last one we'll see. There are a whole bunch of similar red-carpet premieres coming up during the next few months, including one for the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King!! :w00t:
Big names from Tom Cruise, Tommy Lee Jones, Val Kilmer, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, and Keanu Reeves to Nicole Kidman,
Renée Zellweger, and Natalie Portman are supposed to show up, right here outside campus.
Awesome, isn't it? Yeah!! UCLA is the place to be!

After the event, we had dinner at an Indian restaurant called Bombay Bite in Westwood itself, and the food was really good! Wow...what a day!

EDIT: Some people have been getting confused...just to clear things up - we didn't actually watch the movie...it was a special screening. And honestly, I don't think I'm going to watch it when it's released next week either. So yeah...

Scary Movie 3...

Hahaha...I just watched Scary Movie 3 today, and I thought it was so much funnier than the second one. Maybe it's because I've watched Signs...or it might have really been better than part two. Whatever the case may be, it was hilarious. I was laughing my head off during so many scenes.

It was a nice way to end the day after all the homework and studying. If you're bored, check it out.

Spyware-free...

I just reinstalled Ad-Aware after almost six months, just to see if I have any spyware loaded without my knowledge. Did a full system scan and not one file or registry entry was found. Nothing.

I thought that was quite amazing. Just goes to show that even with all that junk floating around the web, you can definitely remain completely spyware-free if you're careful enough (and make use of Firebird's cookie whitelisting feature properly :P)

Guess I won't be needing Ad-Aware anymore.

Matrix Revolutions...

I was thinking of posting a detailed opinion of what I liked and disliked about Revolutions, but it ended up containing too many spoilers, so I decided not to.

All I can say to the people who haven't watched it is - there were disappointing aspects to the movie, and everyone has probably already heard about that from all the negative reviews that have been posted all over the web.

BUT, I wouldn't completely dismiss it off as being a horrible finale, and not go for it at all. In fact, I really enjoyed the movie, despite it's flaws, and although I have to admit it could have been better, I think it could also have been worse. You'll know what I mean when you watch it (which you should), especially at the end.
I have been a huge fan of the Matrix since the original, and I know I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't go watch it just because of negative reviews. Like Khayman said, it's worth watching it so that you can make up your own mind. Everyone is different, and some people loved it, while others were completely disappointed and shattered.

With that said, I still think my $7.50 on the ticket were well-spent (although the $3.25 for a small-sized Pepsi was completely ridiculous and unjustified :P)
I still think that if you enjoyed the first two parts, and you've been following along, you should definitely go watch it. Even if you're like some of the people who were totally disappointed, it's worth going just for the action and the CG/special effects.

Bottomline: Just go! :D

RedHat CEO says: Use Windows!

Source: NTFS.org
Matthew Szulik, chief executive of Linux vendor Red Hat, said on Monday that although Linux is capable of exceeding expectations for corporate users, home users should stick with Windows: "I would say that for the consumer market place, Windows probably continues to be the right product line," he said. "I would argue that from the device-driver standpoint and perhaps some of the other traditional functionality, for that classic consumer purchaser, it is my view that (Linux) technology needs to mature a little bit more."

Have to admit that's true, although I find it funny coming from the mouth of the CEO of RedHat, which happens to be one of the most ridiculously easy distributions to use, in my opinion. :P
From my experience with Linux (several different distributions) during the past few years, I feel it's the initial setup that causes people to turn away from it. Compiling drivers, messing with kernel modules to get hardware working etc. - that's what scares potential users away. Once you have your hardware set up, there isn't really much to it. There are newbie-friendly GUI front-ends for almost every common application these days, so general usability on a nicely set up system is quite fine...definitely not as easy as Windows, but manageable, nonetheless. Just takes a little getting used to.

User-friendliness is something the Linux developer community definitely needs to focus on, and this needs to start right from the initial installation stage. I'm sure Linux will attract a lot more users if the initial setup hurdle is simplified to the maximum extent possible. It's getting better, but it still has quite a way to go if it seriously needs to compete with something like Windows or Mac OS X.

A way to contact me from here...

I realized that other than the shoutbox, there was no way to get in touch with me from the site, especially through email, since I don't have my email address up here.

Now I still don't want to put my email address up, just because I don't want to get spam-bombed or anything. I know you can use an image or the [at] and [dot] format to prevent bots from picking up the address, but that still doesn't stop actual people from sending me junk.

The solution: an email form coded in PHP :D. So there it is, for anyone who wants to send me a mail anytime.

Fickle weather...

The weather here in the Los Angeles/Orange County area has been quite odd during the past few weeks.

It started off with a steady temperature increase until it became uncommonly hot for a few days. I was literally guzzling bottles of water and Powerade everytime I walked in and out of my room (people who know me might find this hard to believe, but it's true! :D).
Then came the fires in San Bernardino, and we had almost a rain of ash falling from the sky for a couple of days. Seriously. It was really weird.
After that there was a bit of rain, and now it's actually starting to get a little too cold for my tastes. I was looking at the picture from Alberta on o_87's blog and I can't imagine how people in Canada can survive through that kind of weather. :P
It's not even close to being that cold here, but it's bad enough for me. I'm a warm-weather person, and I just get really dull and irritable in cold weather...

80 gigs of good-ness!

:D

Yup, got the 80 gig hard disk up and running. When my dad called me up on Friday, I didn't know he had got the "Special Edition" drive with the 8MB cache buffer. That was a pleasant surprise when I came home.
The old 30GB drive has been wiped clean, and is going to be used on a Windows 98SE machine in my dad's office.
Oddly enough, I've never managed to even come close to filling up the 30 gigs, but that's probably because I keep it uncommonly tidy, and store all the large files on CDs. Feels nice to have 70 gigs of free space now. Going to get all those files back on the hard disk so that I can access them from university through the VPN.
