The Rundown

Just watched "The Rundown" a little while ago, as planned. Was good fun, as I thought it would be. The plot and such wasn't anything special, but I've just been in the mood for kick-back, relaxing, fun movies, and this one did it for me.

The fight scenes were great...not surprising considering it's The Rock we're talking about here. Lots of humor thrown in all through the movie. It even had my dad laughing a bunch of times while watching it.

Not something I'd go watch in a theater, but still a very entertaining movie, nonetheless.

Already seems to be the middle of the week. Just have until Sunday for spring break to end. One week really isn't enough after the amount they make us work all quarter. But it's better than nothing at all, I guess, so I'm just trying to make the most of it until the next quarter tumbles in...

More pics from UCLA

Thanks to Adheesh, I've got more pictures of campus in the picture gallery. These were taken with a Canon SD100 and resized to 800x600, so they're nice and crisp.
Check them out on the pictures page. :)

Ok, I lied...

:)
Maybe not. I guess I just decided to change my mind. In my last post, I mentioned I was going to revert to the Windows-look. Well, just when I decided to, two factors made me think again.

Lynchknot, one of the earliest and greatest Firefox (and previously, Firebird) themers, just released a mock-up of Safari. The skin is really well done, and I just wanted to use it.
Then Proteo from the MozillaZine forums sent me a beta copy of his Mail.app skin for Thunderbird. Now this has to be THE most detailed and most accurate skin I have ever seen to this day. XUL is extremely powerful for skinning, and Proteo has truly taken it to its full potential. Check out some breathtaking screenshots in his thread on MozillaZine.

Now both these marvels obviously looked completely out of place with the Watercolor look. That did it for me. I used a non-OS X look for one whole day, and that was it. Now I'm back to using KoL's Panther theme, along with these two incredible skins.

Too bad. I couldn't resist. ;)

Time for a change...

I've finally decided to move away from any more Mac OS UI emulation on Windows, at least for the time being. It's been fun changing almost every aspect of XP to make it look like OS X during the last few months, but I'm starting to get bored of the same Aqua/Smooth Stripes/Brushed look now.

I restored backups of all the old system files and icons last night. I've also switched my theme back to Watercolor Lite. The whole transformation back to the Windows look is a surprisingly refreshing change, and Watercolor Lite (especially the Ergonomic sub-style) is one of the most professional and clean themes I've ever used. It was one of my most frequently used themes before I got into the Mac emulation phase.

I'm quite happy with how everything looks now, but I must admit...it did feel a little strange for the first few minutes after moving the taskbar back to the bottom, and the dock to the top of the screen. I won't be getting rid of the dock anytime soon. It's just something I've become accustomed to, and it's functional, so it'll stay, although the icons won't be OS X-like anymore.
:)

EDIT: The desktop section hasn't been updated with the new screenshot. Will do that sometime later.

Underworld

I don't know what took me so long to decide to watch this movie, but it was awesome. I had heard good reviews about it from people who watched it earlier, but I never expected it to be this good.

Several scenes clearly reminded me of the Matrix, but the movie overall was very different obviously. The whole vampires versus werewolves theme added a nice, eerie touch to it, and the action and special effects were brilliantly stylistic. Lots of points in the movie that just made you want to go, "Whoah! That's cool!"

If you haven't watched it yet, you really should sometime...just for the really cool action sequences all through. Just don't watch it if you're one of those hardcore realists who can't put reality aside.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, "The Rundown" is next on my list. Thinking of watching it either later today or tomorrow. I'll post my opinion on that as well, but I already expect it to be quite an entertaining movie as well.

Nighthawk turns a year old...

My laptop just completed a year today. I still remember how exciting it was to get a laptop at this time last year. Dell even has a little "birth certificate" for it.
Check it out. It's neat. :D

Site changes...

As you can see, there have been some little changes to the layout. I needed to get the archives bar out as the list was starting to get too long. So now there's a different section for archive links altogether. I also moved the link and validation buttons to the left, mainly because I thought the left side was looking a little too barren after the archives bar was removed. The current state of things is just experimental. I'm going to decide whether it'll stay this way or change over the next couple of days.

Planning to finally change the layout of the pictures section sometime over this break, as I had mentioned sometime earlier. A new site theme is also due...that might come sometime soon as well.

Proof that 2 = 1

This was quite amusing, so I thought I'd make a quick post. I opened up a terminal in Slack today, and here's what my "fortune cookie" said:

1) X=Y ; Given
2) X^2=XY ; Multiply both sides by X
3) X^2-Y^2=XY-Y^2 ; Subtract Y^2 from both sides
4) (X+Y)(X-Y)=Y(X-Y) ; Factor
5) X+Y=Y ; Cancel out (X-Y) term
6) 2Y=Y ; Substitute X for Y, by equation 1
7) 2=1 ; Divide both sides by Y
-- "Omni", proof that 2 equals 1

Some of these "fortunes" are just great :D
