  1. # Bilal:

    I’d like one. =]

  2. # Omar:

Sweet. What made you do the switch?

Are you running wordpress off of your server or via wordpress.com?

Also, the site is loading much faster! Good job :)

  3. # Kunal:

    @Bilal: Sent. :)

  4. # flwright:

I would also like a Joost invitation.

    Thank you

  5. # tronmaster:

Hi Kunal, saw your post at Neowin, could I get one also? Thanks.

  6. # Bilal:

    Thanks Kunal!

  7. # Aaron Harding:

Also saw the Neowin post. Could I get an invite?

  8. # Kunal:

What made me switch from Blogger to WordPress? Lots of little things, really. Blogger stores everything in flat files (no database), and after four years, it was getting a little unmanageable. :) Plus WordPress is a much more feature-complete platform, with support for plugins, trackbacks, a proper search system (this was a big one) etc.

I’m running WordPress off the server. I also noticed the decrease in load times. The old system was pulling everything out of flat files, and when files get big, the performance hit goes up. The faster speeds could also be because I switched hosts; this is hosted by A Small Orange now, not 1and1, as I mentioned in my previous post. :)

  9. # Jacob:

hey could I get an invite, thanks in advance!

  10. # Anando:

Can I have one too ? Thanks.

  11. # Mike:

Kunal, I appreciate a invite if you could.

    Thx

  12. # Kunal:

The first five invites I had were sent to Bilal, flwright, tronmaster, Aaron, and Jacob.

  13. # tronmaster:

Thank you Kunal! I got the invite much appreciated! :-)

  14. # Omar:

If you have any left, I’d love one.

  15. # Aaron Harding:

    Kunal,

Sorry, can you resend that invite? Fat fingered my e-mail in the first post. Thanks!

  16. # Sunny:

Hey dude, just saw ur post on neowin. Could u please send out and invite for me =)

  17. # John Kawal:

If you could, I would appreciate an invite.
Saw your post on Neowin. My name there
    is display name.

  18. # Villian:

I’d like an invite too, please (assuming any are left).

  19. # Fermin:

Can you please hook me up with an invite

  20. # Peter:

    Please, invite me! Thanks!

  21. # Kunal:

I just got a new batch. Invites have been sent to everyone who requested one so far. :)

  22. # Scollardical:

I saw your post on OSNN and would like a Joost invite if you still have any left. Thanks

  23. # Temperal:

Just noticed the post on OSNN, would love an invite if you have one left. Thanks a bunch!

  24. # LordOfLA:

    WTB Joost invite :)

  25. # Scollardical:

Thank you very much for sending the invite. It is working fine.
    Maurice

  26. # hansrijf:

hi saw your invitations invitation on osnn, would like one!

    thanks

    Hans

  27. # Jewelzz:

Oh oh oh, me please :)

  28. # Omar:

“Imagine watching an episode of LOST and being able to discuss theories with other viewers in realtime during commercial breaks.”

Sounds awesome in theory, but there would always be the pricks who would spoil episodes for everyone else.

  29. # Oomi:

Hi, I’d like an invite :) Aloha from Hawaii!

  30. # Ashley:

If you have any more I would appreciate it! Thanks.

  31. # Phil Jones:

If you have any more joost invite could you send me one. I would love to check out joost.

  32. # Geoff:

I’d absolutely love it for Comedy Central to go worldwide through Joost. Very cool system though. The beeb (aka BBC) has been pretty good at picking up on new technologies, maybe they will join with Joost, or produce programming for it. Get more of the new Doctor Who out to the world :D David Tennant rocks :P

  33. # Lee Hamilton:

Well if you still have one i’d be interested :)

  34. # Nima:

I feel exactly the same way. The tech behind it is pretty cool and it has some nice features here and there, but the content is just meh. I watched a few things here and there, but there is honestly no content on there that interests me… Hopefully we will see more in the near future, or I am done with Joost.

  35. # Ron:

If you have an invite available, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

  36. # sanjiv:

    Would love an invite! Thanks.

  37. # Kunal:

@Geoff: Never watched Doctor Who, but I’ll say yes to any good new content. :) Would be nice to see The Daily Show, Colbert Report, etc. on the Comedy Central channel in Joost too.

@Omar: That’s a good point. They also have a Jabber/GTalk widget, so I guess you could also set up a private chatroom with just friends.

  38. # Chris Zagaja:

Girlfriend and I fought over Sling Box control. She won and now I have nothing to watch. Save this man from boredom. Send him an invite so he can watch some TV and experience new technology. Have some compassion.

    With Respect & Thanks,
    Chris Z.

  39. # Kunal:

    Check your inbox, Chris. :)

  40. # Tim:

    Hi Kunal,
I really like the style of your blog, looks good!

If it is not too late to get an invite to Joost, I would really appreciate it – I am interested in web 2.0 technologies and would love to try this out.

    Cheers,
    Tim.

  41. # Tim:

Thank you so much Kunal, I got your invitation!

  42. # Cristian:

I’ve been curious about Joost for a while…wouldn’t mind trying it ^_^.
Is the programming any good? I’ve read that the shows that play are only okay…

  43. # Gerald Green:

Can I have an invite please, curious as hell!

  44. # Marcos Noriega:

Kunal, I’m looking for an invitation to try Joost, can you send me one?

    Thx a lot

  45. # Arun:

Hi Kunal, Can i get joost invite ?
You can e-mail me at v.arunindia@gmail.com.
    Waiting for the invite.

    Thankx in advance dude

  46. # tdinc "paul":

    Hi Kunal,

I just noticed the thread on osnn that you have some invites. Have any left for a news poster?..hahaha

    thx man

  47. # Bert JW Regeer:

I would love to get a orange iPod Shuffle!

  48. # David Kerry:

Sounds like a sweet deal. Hopefully it will expand to Europe too.

You’ll enjoy the shuffle, I rarely leave the house without mine now, it’s just so small and convenient, great when running or cycling, just clip it on and go.

Orange is an awesome colour too ;)

  49. # weid:

would love to get one , vgudonis@gmail.com , thanks, :)

  50. # win:

I wish to have one too. Thanks.

  51. # Daniel Allman:

Hi am i able to get an invite? really interested to try out this thing!!! Ta.
    Dan

  52. # Said:

    Nice site.

  53. # Kunal:

Yeah, orange was my top choice. They let you pick which color you want. :)

It’s a pretty nice device overall. I’ll probably use it when I just go out, and when I start commuting to work in NYC. My Zen Micro, on the other hand, is better suited for longer road trips and flights etc.

Had to install iTunes though, and I’m not too happy with the performance; it really should be much more responsive on a dual-core machine with 2GB of RAM. But I guess it’s okay just to load up the shuffle and close it. :)

  54. # Mansoor:

I hope this is a sign of things to come in the future, like more windows applications from Apple. If nothing else a little competition for the present applications is always good.

  55. # Bilal:

Good review! Agree with the extensions part. AdBlock, especially. It’s the major one. =P

The ClearType still works, right? I’m on Safari right now and the fonts seem to be fine.

I guess they can fix some issues because it’s still in Beta? =|

  56. # Bilal:

Okay, it just crashed on me twice. Happened everytime I tried to change my home page. =/

  57. # Sazar:

The speed, I am not so sure about.

It is definitely fast in some tasks but using it for a few hours on a variety of sites for VARIOUS tasks, it simply does not add up to the benchmarking results Apple so happily showed.

The fonts look terrible and it has started crashing very regularly.

The favorites management is non-existent to say the least simply because of its implementation. It allows no customization and is the primary cause of my crashes so far. Thank goodness for Vista stability else I would be a very annoyed user.

Certainly some nice things but when Apple promises things and fails to deliver in as massive a flop (yes, I said it) as this is, I am far from happy about things.

Heck, I still bash FF2 but it’s my primary browser now :)

    Safari? Not so much.

Maybe if I was in Kenya.

  58. # Bert JW Regeer:

Safari and iTunes are meant to be run on Mac OS X. Simple. Sure it is nice Apple is willing to release versions for Windows, they will never fit in. The entire rip from Mac OS X and stick on Windows was done on purpose, they want to emulate Safari on the Mac as closely as possible.

  59. # David Kerry:

You could always give Shuffle-DB a go: http://shuffle-db.sourceforge.net/

I used it with my original shuffle whenever I was on a Windows/Linux box, and even some occasions on OS X. It’s said to work with the newer shuffles too.

  60. # Geoff:

You could pass on your thoughts to the webkit team at irc://irc.freenode.org/#webkit

  61. # Kunal:

    Thanks, Dave. I’ll take a look. :)

  62. # Kunal:

    @Bilal:

    >> The ClearType still works, right? I’m on Safari right now and the fonts seem to be fine.

It does use a subpixel rendering technique, but it’s not ClearType. You can see a comparison screenshot here:
    http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000884.html

    >> Okay, it just crashed on me twice. Happened everytime I tried to change my home page. =/

Yeah, it’s crashed on me a few times since yesterday. Too bad there’s no session saver for it, eh? ;)

  63. # Matthew:

It works pretty well (for a beta) for me, save for a couple things — I can’t enter Japanese text into form fields using the IME, which makes it useless if I want to do any browsing of Japanese sites. And on top of that, if your default non-Unicode language is set to Japanese then Japanese fonts won’t display properly (in pages or menus) since the font names are in Japanese and it apparently can’t read them then…

  64. # Kunal:

@Matthew: Those are some pretty important things to fix. You should make sure you report those to Apple.

  65. # Bilal:

Kunal: Yeah, I just saw your other post regarding that and it cleared things up…

  66. # j. brotherlove:

Great review! I agree with everything you noted in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. This beta is a good effort but not ready for primetime, for me. The speed is nice but the font rendering is blecch. Surprisingly, it crashed on me from the very start.

Most importantly, those pesky security vulnerabilities are a big problem.

  67. # Kyle:

yea i swear i have clicked the back button on my mouse 1 million times thinking taht i will go to the previous page… but nope i have to move the mouse to the back button in safari!!! fix it apple!!!

  68. # ofg:

Heh, you sound like me when I was done high school :p

  69. # Kunal:

Yeah, it’s the same feeling. :)

  70. # Bilal:

    Congratulations! =)
I graduated from high school on June 1st lol

  71. # Bilal:

    P.S.
    The ZenPhoto theme is sweet.

  72. # Kunal:

    Congrats, Bilal! =)
So where are you off to this Fall?

  73. # Bilal:

    University of Calgary. xD

  74. # Geoff:

Cool stuff. I keep meaning to give Twessenger a try but I don’t use win often enough, or twitter for that matter :P

  75. # Kunal:

Wouldn’t be very useful for you then, eh Geffy? :D

  76. # Vijay:

Congrats. Where are you headed now?

  77. # Eric:

This is exactly what I expected to find out after reading the title WOWIO – free eBooks (and an iPod shuffle)…. Thanks for informative article

  78. # Kunal:

    Thanks, Vijay. =)

I’ll be heading off to NYC at the end of the month. My work at Morgan Stanley begins in mid-August.

  79. # Bert JW Regeer:

One thing I have always missed on Symbian, WinCE or Blackberry phones is proper support for Mac OS X. The iPhone has that going for it.

  80. # Kunal:

Don’t Symbian Series60 phones sync with Address Book and iCal via iSync? I always figured that would work pretty smoothly since iSync is part of OS X, but I’ve never tried, so maybe I’m wrong. I also remember lots of folks back at Google using their Blackberries with Macs.

On the other hand, I do see how using WiMo devices with a Mac would be a pain since there’s no official sync tool for them from either Microsoft or Apple. That’s a shame, and it definitely needs to be remedied.

  81. # Erik Huddleston:

I believe that the UI coupled with the Safari browser makes it a compelling productivity platform, particularly for web 2.0 productivity apps. I have posted a detailed defense of this position here:

    http://blog.2glue.com/productivity/2007/07/mobile-web-20-p.html

Bottom line, if you use web based productivity tools, you can’t afford NOT to switch to the iPhone.

  82. # David Kerry:

I’d buy one, if it was free.

  83. # Kunal:

@Erik, that’s actually a very good point. I think if you’ve already switched over to exclusively using web apps for productivity tasks, then the iPhone would suit you well because of the desktop-like browsing experience.

With that said, I’m curious to know how well the transition is working out for you. I’ve always felt that rich client apps and web apps are complementary rather than mutually exclusive. My ideal setup consists of client apps running on the desktop that synchronize up with a central server, which then provides a good web-based interface that you can use when you’re not at your own PC.

I feel like the benefits of such a “hybrid” model are even greater on a phone/PDA – you have a client app that synchronizes over-the-air while the device is on your pocket so that the information you need is readily available as soon as you need it. Because of the low bandwidth and high latency of EDGE data networks, you have to spend time waiting for each separate web app to load in the mobile browser every time you need to look something up. Consider the number of times you access these apps during the day, and you realize that the amount of lost time quickly adds up. Haven’t you experienced this?

I should mention that I do find the topic of your blog (mobile productivity) to be very interesting. I’ll be following your posts to read about your experiences with the transition, because I know I’m personally not ready to switch exclusively to web apps just yet. :)

  84. # Geoff:

Have you tried ‘e’ the Windows TextMate clone?

Favourite editor is TextMate, with BitstreamVera (DejaVu basically) and the Vibrant Ink scheme. Used to be a big fan of ProFont but BitstreamVera is just nicer.

    e: http://www.e-texteditor.com/
    Vibrant Ink: http://encytemedia.com/blog/articles/2006/01/03/textmate-vibrant-ink-theme-and-prototype-bundle

  85. # Nima Nikzad:

Notepad++ is also my favorite choice when VS2005 is not really an option. I haven’t really looked into any plug-ins for it yet, but maybe I should…

  86. # Kunal:

@Geoff: I had stumbled upon the “e” site a while ago, but never got around to installing the trial. I’ll have to take a look. Support for TextMate bundles looks especially interesting. Do you use those often?

And thanks for the link to the Vibrant Ink scheme. Since I couldn’t find a Ruby Blue port for VS2005, I’m using that for now. They’re quite similar, actually. =)

  87. # ofg:

I’ve been using Notepad 2.0 for a long time, although recently I came across Firebug, so I’m going to give that a try for my next project.

If I don’t like it, I’ll give this a shot too.

  88. # Geoff:

I spend damn near every minute of everyday in TextMate staring at ruby code using Vibrant Ink

  89. # Kunal:

@Geoff: I meant, do you use bundles in TextMate often? =)

  90. # Isaque:

Would like to receive one! Thanks!

  91. # Geoff:

On OS X there is a popular framework called Sparkle (http://sparkle.andymatuschak.org/) which a lot of apps include these days. Means a lot of applications have a really nice update system.

Its so nice to use, you setup an AppCast RSS Feed, then when the application checks for updates it looks to the AppCast feed and if there is an update it automatically downloads the file, extracts it, verifies it, optionally shows you a changelog or release notes, and gives you the option to install and relaunch or just install.

Clicking “Install & Relaunch” copies the new version to the same location as the current .app file and then relaunches it.

All in all pretty much the same as the Firefox one but any Cocoa application can make use of it.

  92. # Asa Dotzler:

Sparkle is nice. I’m not really sure it’s “pretty much the same as the Firefox” system.

Does it offer binary patching so that you can download, say, a 100KB patch instead of a 5MB application? Does it have solid error handling so that there is literally no case where a user is left with a non-functional application? Does it support update checks from 100 million clients per day or downloads from 10 million clients per day? Does it throttle background downloading if the user is occupying the connection? Does it allow the client to store all live user data (like text typed in text areas, open tabs, form data, etc.) and restore it after the restart? Does it offer robust tools for managing the Appcast feeds and load balancing?

Building a robust application update system is actually very complicated. That’s why it’s only done really well like the really big guys (see Microsoft and Apple which both have solid systems for their OS and their own apps) and those few organizations who make it a real priority for security and usability reasons like Mozilla.

More and better updates systems are a good thing, Geoff, and I don’t mean to sound overly critical of your comment but I do want to highlight that Firefox’s update system is actually a lot more than what it first appears. And I’m in no way trying to diss Sparkle. I appreciate that it exists and use it for my Adium updates all the time. It’s a fine addition to the mix and has a pretty good feature set. I just wanted to point out that it’s not “pretty much” the same as Firefox’s system. By the way, Firefox’s system is also open source and available to others to modify and use, though it’s clearly designed with Firefox and Thunderbird (and other Moz apps) as the primary consumer.

    - A

  93. # Kunal:

    Great points, Asa. =)

I’m sure a lot of effort went into building the Firefox update system, and it clearly shows (kudos to you guys!). As you pointed out, there are so many different things that need to be taken into account to ensure that the update process is as smooth, unobtrusive, and error-free as possible, and I think that’s part of the reason why few software vendors manage to get it just right.

Frameworks like Sparkle definitely have their place too. The ease with which it can be integrated into an existing application is fantastic (I just had a look at the docs). It looks like an appealing choice for smaller ISVs that don’t quite have the time and resources to devote towards building custom update systems from scratch. I think this might actually be a good topic for a Part 3. ;)

  94. # Geoff:

From the perspective of “just a user” sparkle is “pretty much like firefox update” in that it automatically lets you know when an update is available, downloads the update, extracts and installs the update and relaunches the application. I’ve never had a broken app after a Sparkle update either.

It would be nice if it could do binary patching so you only got what you need but the other features like handling 10k client updates are probably less required as it isn’t employed by applications with that kind of size though again that would be nice.

  95. # Geoff:

Isn’t Ubuntu able to do this because it builds and packages all the apps into their own universal package repository or something?

Would be nice to have third-party software updates provided through the OS update system, myself and Jan-Willem were talking about this a while ago wrt Apple Software Update (ASU) and how cool it would be if third-party developers could register an app with ASU either on installation or directly with Apple. Then the ASU program would also check for updates to your installed third-party applications.

This would also be really good for some development houses if it was registered directly with the OS vendor as then they might be able to akamize it or something thereby taking the bandwidth loading off the developer.

PS shouldn’t firefox be updating itself instead of cheating and letting something else do it

    *runs*

  96. # Bert JW Regeer:

FireFox lets you know a new version is available, but won’t download a new version if the OS it is running on is not one of the many pre-packaged software compiles they have available.

A repository of apps is great, problem is they get outdated too fast. That is why the ports tree is nice, now it is as simple as updating an Makefile, no need to have someone else pre-compile the software, who may want a different flag set than you.

What Geoff said is really something I hope Apple will implement within their OS, as that would be one of the coolest features ever, hell Steve Jobs could show it off on stage, and get all the Linux people mad since their package manager has been doing it all along :P (Ignoring the fact that this is from a third party developers site and that Apple is not hosting the software in a repo :P)

  97. # vern:

I’ve been using Notepad++ as a notepad replacement for quite some time now. It won’t replace an IDE, but I like it for quick edits. Then again, I haven’t found an IDE that I truely liked. I wish Eclipse would run natively on Windows without all that Java.

  98. # Bilal:

    That is super-cool. xD

  99. # Anthony:

    Hiking rocks.

  100. # ofg:

“Isn’t it nice not having to worry about homework, projects and exams on weekends anymore? =)”

    I hate ya.

  101. # Jake:

I really like Notepad++ but is there a way of wrapping a selection in a specific tag, eg bold text in the way that you can in Textmate?

  102. # ofg:

Nice. But SJSU don’t give out emails unless you go to a building and specifically sign up for one 0_o.

  103. # Bert JW Regeer:

Do note, that the kernel in that case is still running, thus it is not a BSoD. It is not dead. That being said, the app in question is a 3rd party piece of software that users had installed, and the blame should be put on Logitech for installing it with their keyboard software, and shipping an old version. The amount of times on Windows 95/98/2000/XP i’ve had Windows BSoD on me was because of Microsoft supplied drivers or software. Even last night while I was developing a C# application on Windows XP using Visual Studio, it decided to BSoD, because of a network driver that Windows XP had installed for my network card.

I agree with not every OS being a 100% reliable, there is a reason there are warnings in Apple’s OS that Mac OS X is not allowed to be used in nuclear power plants :P. Every OS has it’s problems, but there is no denying that Microsoft has a track record that has been unsurpassed by other OS’s.

  104. # David Kerry:

    Amen.

  105. # ofg:

When I saw the poster last night, I was pretty hyped.

I thought I Am Legend came out late December?

  106. # Kunal:

Omar, “I Am Legend” opens on Friday next week (Dec 14th).

  107. # Bilal:

I love the poster. Very creative. And I can’t wait for the movie! It’s gonna rock!

  108. # ofg:

Sweet. I’m definitely going to an IMAX now :)

  109. # nudel:

the highlight engine doesn’t work on Notepad++ 4.1.2

  110. # Tina Anderson:

I love hiking, but I wasn’t aware that areas just outside of New York City are so nice for hiking. I will have to explore them next time I’m in the area.

  111. # David Kerry:

The one thing SE have struggled with thus far – in my eyes at least – is a decent professional model. Their mp3 player’s with phones tacked on, and stupidly high resolution camera phones are great for most people, and the teen-y audience they’re likely targeted at, however they don’t yet seem to have nailed what the average office drone requires on the move.

I’m hoping this new X1, amongst their other new offerings will be the start of some changes for them. My last three phones have all been SE, and I’m getting a little tired of the same old tripe being churned out with prettier graphics for each revision.

  112. # David Kerry:

It really is something special. Given the choice though, I think I would still go for a Lotus Elise (Or Exige should someone wish to throw money at me :D)

  113. # Kunal:

Yeah, I know what you mean. In fact, T-Mobile stopped selling SE phones here in the U.S. a long time ago. Their last popular model I remember here was the T610 that *everybody* had…it was almost like the RAZR of its time. :D

Also interestingly, HTC happens to be Sony’s ODM for the XPERIA X1, so that’s probably a good thing too, since they’ve had a lot of experience with Windows Mobile devices already.

  114. # Kunal:

    Ah, the Elise. :)
Can’t forget that experience I had with it at Google last summer. Great car! I’d opt for the R8’s design any day, but then again, the Elise is almost half the price, if I remember correctly.

  115. # Bilal:

Gorgeous car. Have you seen the Superbowl commercial for it? I loved it. =)

  116. # Kunal:

Bilal: Yeah, the Godfather one. Classic! :D

  117. # David Kerry:

I can pick up a decent (Second hand, natch) Elise round here for close to £8k. I can’t see myself getting an R8 for that any time soon… I’d certainly have a hard time choosing between the two though. I’ve always said I’ll have either british or japanese cars, which would rule out the R8, though just looking at it is drool-inducing :)

  118. # Luke:

it’s an awsome looking car but i think i’d still prefer a ferrari 430.

  119. # Tony:

Does anyone have the ruby blue color for ruby syntax. I noticed this was only for php, html, css, and javascript.

  120. # Locke:

Itll be interesting to observe how well the new feature fares in the coming months.

  121. # Locke:

I think Joost has a lot of potential, but it wont become something I use on a daily basis unless better content begins to show up.

  122. # Sweetlarry:

I love the car. Beautifully designed car with the designs and features I’ve only dreamed about.

  123. # Bilal:

There are some excellent HDR Audi R8 photos here:

The new address bar has become my new best friend, it’s usefulness makes me wonder why the hell it wasn’t ever done before. I’m sure it will be copied across into the other browsers as soon as it gets to the point where they can all do so without the Fx users moaning about it :P

The current release is my default browser, I’ve toyed with using browsers other than Safari on and off for years, yet none have lasted this long as default.

  127. # Benny:

I had to get used to the address bar but yeah, it’s really great. One thing that annoys me (as with any version change) is that a lot of my extensions don’t work. I bypassed the version checking and some stuff (like gears) still won’t work. It all comes with time I guess :)

A thing that’s really nice on the Mac build is that it looks like a native mac. It used to look like a Windows/agnostic window and never really fit in (and was made fun of by the other apps). But good to see the firefox team making this happen!

  128. # Wes:

    Hi Kunal,

Could you possibly add an update to Twessenger that optionally filtered out twitter messages that begin with @ or alternatively, would you be willing to share the source code with me so I could make such an update myself?

Any such updates would be provided to you as I wouldn’t wish to claim any credit for the fantastic job you’ve already done. I simply want to do this for my own benefit.

    Thanks,

    Wesley

  129. # Kunal:

Wes: It’s been a while since the last Twessenger update, but since I’ve been getting lots of requests, I have just started working on a new version today. Details coming shortly. :)

  130. # Tysen Woodlock:

    Excellent news!

  131. # Wes:

Works like a charm, thanks for responding to the requests for an update. Awesome work!

  132. # Ted:

Good work, thanks! In future versions we want bi-directional updates, avatar synchronization, … :)

  133. # Alex Rau:

I just spoke to one of the TMo customer service reps. He told me that Tmobile is picking up the phone in september or no later than october. As far as pricing, he said that he didn’t have that info but he also said: “I’d rather pay $200 and stay on the Tmobile network than get a new iphone and pay $100/month on other networks”. He also expressed his wanting to get one as well. The $200 price seems reasonable given that most phones right now don’t really pass the $300 mark.

  134. # Kittyburgers:

Just installed today. Seems to work as advertised! ;-) Good work.
Would love the option of also being able to use as a full twitter client!

  135. # Jay:

I have Windows Live Messenger and installed twessenger 2.0 but there’s nothing different, help? -i123Pie@hotmail.com

  136. # Eckie:

    Hey,

This seems like a great app! But I can’t get it to work. The options in my add-on menu are greyed out and there’s a security message at the bottom stating that not all add-ons are from trustworthy sources. (The message is in Dutch so posting the whole thing wouldn’t make sense to you.)

Any idea what could be the problem?
    Thanks!

  140. # Suzanne:

Installed and apparently it’s connecting as I can see my last post just under my name in the spot.. TwitterIM shows as offline altough I have the chcek box to turn it on.. Would love to get it working.. TIA

  141. # Joel Demay:

was using it, and finding it great until I upgraded to Live messenger 9 Beta. Can’t seem to make it work. I can’t find a way to activate addins in Live messenger 9. Have u looked at Messenger 9 Beta already ?

  142. # Ove K:

Would love if it was able to use with “non-public Twitter” updates (what if we provide username and password?)

  143. # Pierre:

Does it need the twitter feed to be public ?

  144. # Seba:

How can I get it to work with the beta version of the upcoming Windows Live Messenger 2009?

    Regards

  145. # Kunal:

@Everyone, please take a look at this post about Twessenger + WLM 2009 compatibility:
    http://kunal.kundaje.net/2008/10/twessenger-status-update/

  146. # Geoff:

Do you know if the API removal is an intentional change or just one they’ve put in place temporarily during the beta process. From their point of view if they turn off plugins in the beta they should get less reports of issues which are not under their control.

  147. # Kunal:

Geoff, that’s a good point. I think the removal of the add-ins API was intentional though. Even in previous versions of Messenger, the add-ins feature was disabled by default, and to enable it, you had to set a value in a registry key (which the Twessenger installer automatically did). So I’m not sure if they ever actually wanted it to be used.

It would be nice if they added it back in after the beta ends, but I’m not keeping my hopes up. :)

  148. # Debbie:

    That is really a pity.
I haven’t been using Twessenger for much long and only today I got the Beta…

Well, it is a pity that creativity has been cut like this, mainly because I loved your app…

Anyway, I keep track you in case you have the chance to come up with a solution for that.

    *cheers*

  149. # Dave:

I don’t know why, but after seeing the “fox” example, I could just picture the font on the front of a book… odd.

  150. # Bilal:

    Amazinggg. Love it!

  151. # anonymous:

    hi there,

how to change the stuyle of notepad+ to ruby blue?i tried downloading and replacing the file stylers.model.xml but it does not work at my side, any idea?

  152. # Matt:

Ahh dammit. I just saw this app and thought it was a great idea. Too bad I just upgraded to the Messenger 2009 beta as well. :(

  153. # Teon:

    Hi!
On this link: http://www.msgpluslive.nl/scripts/search/?q=twi... you can download some scripts written for the Addon for Live Messenger called Live Messenger Plus!. Great app.
These 3 scripts can update your Twitter status, but do not display your Twitter status in your Personal Message.
Come on Kunal, maybe it's just a script …..

    Goodluck!

  154. # speedyb:

    One of each, I say!

  155. # Braden:

I had the same problem too. HELP!

  156. # Kunal:

Try re-downloading the style from the Notepad++ download page (scroll down to the “Style files” section):
    http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/download...

Unzip the stylers.xml file and copy it into the “%APPDATA%Notepad++” directory.

  157. # Allan:

    Good work, thanks!

  158. # jaz:

I dont know how to access the twessenger app now Ive installed it :(

  159. # Kunal:

@jaz, the latest version of Messenger dropped support for add-ins, so there's no way to use Twessenger with it, unfortunately. Please see this post for more info: http://kunal.kundaje.net/2008/10/twessenger-sta...

  160. # Friendster Layouts:

your blog is really great! 289

  164. # Andreas:

Maybe you could write it for Messenger Plus (http://www.msgplus.net/)? That would be awesome! I really need this!

  165. # Pamela:

I have been hearing about the Xperia X1, there have been a lot written on the web good and bad..
It seems to be an good device, I really want to check how the 520MHz ARM11 processor based device performs..
Thats a powerful processor and could be amazing.

  166. # Nathalie:

I agree with Andreas. I don’t know much about programming but there’s ways to write scripts for messenger plus :)

  167. # Gray:

@Andreas @Nathalie just tested this Messenger Plus! script. works as advertised. http://www.msgpluslive.net/scripts/view/520-Twit2MSN/ remember to edit the source file: options > plus > preferences/options > general > main > scripts > edit.

  168. # tablet pc laptops:

Hey, got a question about your blog. I noticed it loads pages lot faster than mine. Do you host your blog on dedicated server? thanks.

  169. # Kunal:

No, it’s not on a dedicated server. I use shared hosting, provided by asmallorange.com

  170. # Twist:

Its not in the Program files directory, its in the application data under documents and settings.
    for me it’s:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Arachnid\Application Data\Notepad++
Took me a bit to figure it out.
btw i use notepad++ a minimum of 8 hours a day monday through friday.
I owe my success to Notepad++, and this is my first time trying a new style.

any thoughts on how to get messenger addins to work with the new version.?

i'm assuming we're thinking of automating to the 'addin' from a script of somesort.?

  175. # livingonenergydrinks:

I am getting one off ebay soon. Just got off the phone with T-mobile they said they have 2100 band and this will work with the X1. They are selling for about $450 on ebay used now. I think its the only phone with 3.5mm audio jack too. Which is awesome.

  176. # livingonenergydrinks:

I used to have an ASUS 901. It was small and had awesome battery life, but the performance was terrible. The SSD was cheap and slow. I like the new Sony P line, but I hear that unless you get a really beefed up one with a high dollar SSD, the performance isn't that great running on the intel Atom chip.

  177. # livingonenergydrinks:

I am a big fan of Firefox 3. Faster than the original, and with less bugs. Now if I could only get my clients to use it rather than IE 7 or 8.

  178. # livingonenergydrinks:

Audi has done a good job with that car. Although I still would rather get a used NSX for 30k-40k, that to waste 100k on an audi. With a Honda at least I know it will run at 200K miles. can't say the same about audi. Although I will admit the design is impressive.

  179. # JP:

    Hi,

I too was using a modified version of twessenger, and upgraded.

I then switched to this tool

    http://mynewbiz.blogspot.com/2009/06/windows-li...

It is a simple comand line tool to update yoru Personal Status message, you can then use whatever scripts you want to set your message.

    Hope this helps!
